Check for bulging
Can you see any areas that are bowing or bulging in or out?
Check for broken glass Can you see any glass that is broken or bulging?
Check for loose braces On the interior of the stained glass windows you will
see brace bars
attached to the window which help support the window and prevent
bulging.
Are these loose or falling off?
Try to carefully shake to see if they are secure.
Check frames
Is there any leakage or rotting wood?
RELEADING
Hershey Studio craftsmen will carefully
take a rubbing of the panel(s) to releaded. Once the rubbing
is complete the panel(s) will be disassembled piece by piece
and properly cleaned. Hershey Studio craftsmen will then reassemble
the stained glass panel using all new lead came that will match
the original in the visual width of the lead profile. All new
leads will be fabricated from an alloy containing 0.69% tin,
0.6-0.9% antimony, (both work to increase resistance to deflection)
and trace elements of copper and silver (.03-.06% -both act to
increase resistance to metal fatigue). Leads will be soldered
with 60/40 tin/lead solder. After soldering, all residue of flux
will be carefully cleaned from the panel. Where ever possible,
the leads will be cross woven. Each panel will be cemented on
both sides and a proper bracing system installed before reinstallation.
The releaded panels will be reinstalled and properly secured.
A flexible sealant will be applied allowing each panel to expand
and contract without any hindrance thus preventing any future
damage to the stained glass.
